What We Offer

Overview

Discover the supportive and nurturing environment of the Catholic Chaplaincy tailored for Cardiff’s university community. We're here to help you navigate the complexities of university life and to grow spiritually, emotionally and academically.

A Central Site

With a site in the centre of Cathays Park Campus, we are easily accessible for Cardiff University. We are a 10 minute walk from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, 20 minutes from the Creative Industries Campus of the University of South Wales and a 10 minute bus journey from Cardiff Metropolitan University (35 mins if you want to walk!). You’re never too far from the Catholic Chaplaincy.

A Full-Time Chaplain

We are the only University Chaplaincy in South Wales to benefit from a full-time priest chaplain. Apart from Thursdays, Fr John Patrick is available Tuesday to Sunday for staff and students. If you want to speak with him, feel free to approach him when you see him or to book an appointment email: johnp.thomas@rcadc.org.

  • Formation

Enhance your university experience beyond academics. Explore faith deeper and grow personally in a safe, respectful environment at the Catholic Chaplaincy. Engage with big questions and learn more about Christian life and teachings.

  • Building Friendships

Looking for a community that feels like home? The Catholic Chaplaincy is your space to meet like-minded individuals and forge lasting relationships. Enjoy a welcoming environment where you can truly be yourself and make connections that will enrich your university experience and beyond.

  • Prayer and Worship

At the heart of our chaplaincy is the sacramental life of the Church. A prayerful and worshipping community staying close to the Lord. The are opportunities to participate in daily Mass, in the liturgical highlights throughout the year; as well as Days of Recollection.

What is more our chaplain encourages those wishing to explore and develop their baptismal faith to join a faith-sharing group. For those wishing to receive the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion he is happy to provide sacramental preparation. And for those enquirers discerning whether to become a Catholic he is more than happy to spiritually accompany them and if required to prepare them for the Sacraments of Initiation.

He is available too for the celebration of the sacraments of healing namely the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick should anyone request.
